A Great Day at Remarque in Albuquerque -- Tessellations

We had a great day printing tessellation tiles in COLOR at Remarque Print Workshop in Albuquerque, on Saturday, November 23, 2024 -- with JEANETTE COOK, ELLIE WEADOCK and CASANDRA ENCINIAS:

Color prints in the rack

We printed with AKUA color intaglio inks

We had to add Mag Mix
to thicken some of the colors

PREPARATION

Set up and preparation was really easy at Remarque, since all the materials were mostly already there:

Jeanette played around with some compositions

Placing blanks on the press bed
to adjust the pressure on the press

Testing the press pressure

Putting out ink slabs for various colors

SECOND PRINT

The second print was more experimental, on Rives BFK lightweight cream paper, with two passes. The first pass was a ghost print with the tessellation tiles FACE UP -- and the second pass was a regular print with the tessellation tiles FACE DOWN:

The second print started as a ghost print,
with a second pass of fully inked tiles

THIRD PRINT

The third print was on colored Mexican Amate paper -- and also took two passes, each time the tiles were FACE DOWN.

FOURTH PRINT

The fourth print was also on colored Mexican Amate paper, and also took two passes through the press, with the tiles FACE DOWN.  Only two tiles were added for the second pass, to cover up the weak yellow prints from the first pass:
