ARTISTS:

HOLLAND HARDIE gave a Tiny Bird print workshop at Remarque on January 18, 2025.  That is when she suggested making -- a LITTLE BIRD Exquisite Tessellation print -- after noticing that we were printing a few bird tessellation tiles the previous week during the Remarque Open House.

We have 8 bird Exquisite Tessellation linocuts in Albuquerque, which all printed on one sheet of paper:

FIRST PRINT

The first good print was on purple Mexican amate paper, after a test print faded on one side:

The pressure was uneven, tighter on one side than the other, so one side of the print faded.  However this could be a nice effect:

SECOND PRINT

The second print was on pink Mexican amate paper:

THIRD PRINT

The third print was on orange Mexican amate paper:

FOURTH PRINT

The fourth and last print was on yellow Mexican amate paper:

PHOTO POLYMER

LINCOLN DRAPER, one of the four owners of Remarque, demoed the photo polymer process. One can transfer a photo image to a photo polymer plate, and print it like it were a copperplate etching:

Lincoln briefly stored the print in a plastic bag, so that the damp paper would not shrink when the water evaporated.  This is critical when printing a second plate over the first, in order that the printing plates register perfectly on the paper:

BACK STUDIO

More printmaking demos happened in the back studio -- Screenprint, Mokuhanga, Exquisite Tessellation relief printmaking, and Mezzotint:
